In a society that has mostly turned its back on the bottled water industry for environmental reasons, Waiakea Water has managed to grow over 5,000 percent in its first three years.
Therefore, it’s safe to assume that Waiakea Water CEO and founder Ryan Emmons implemented some seriously socially-responsible strategies into his brand. For one thing, this brand of water is the first of its kind to be certified carbon neutral. The manufacturing process does not pollute the environment whatsoever unlike so many of its competitors. The company uses 33% renewable energy in its manufacturing process.
To combat this issue, Emmons ensured that the water bottles themselves are made using recycled materials. Instead of being made of plastic, they are made of polyethylene terephthalate.
The water itself comes from a sustainable source as well. According to Gust, the water that collects in the Waiakea Springs of Hawaii is constantly replenished thanks to high local rainfall levels each year.
The water boasts unique nutritional content, giving it a deliciously unique taste that customers love. This is due to high levels of silica that the water picks up as it flows down thousands of feet of volcanic rock. Silica, a natural mineral, has been shown to treat several health ailments from mood disorders to digestive issues. The water also has a high level of electrolytes like sodium, calcium and potassium.
Additionally, the company has taken a charitable initiative by working with Pump Aid. This organization has been providing underprivileged African communities with clean drinking water for years. Ladisco reports that through Pump Aid, these impoverished communities receive 650 liters of clean drinking water for every 1 liter of Waiakea Water sold. So far, this joint collaboration has provided communities in need with over 5 million liters of clean water.
Because of such standards of social responsibility, Waiakea Hawaiian Volcanic Water has been able to revolutionize the water bottle industry forever. The demand is so high that Emmons is opening up a new manufacturing facility in Hawaii where the springs are located.
